Text of constitution and by-laws amendment proposals, to be voted on August 28

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

At the July 17, 2009, chapter meeting, the membership present approved language of proposed amendments for the chapter constitution and by-laws. To put it simply, the proposals would change the process of amendment from a chapter meeting (which generally is attended by less than 10% of the total membership) and to a formal paper or electronic balloting process, so everyone can participate.

The proposals will be voted on at the August 28 meeting–using the process that would be obsolete if the amendments were approved.

External reviewer mini-workshop to go

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

Going up for tenure and needing help putting together a proposed list of external reviewers? Put together a small group of colleagues and you get a mini-workshop brought to you.

Here’s what you do:

  • Find a colleague or two to work with: both must be union members or willing to sign up (this is a member-only mini-workshop)
  • Check my calendar for times before 2:30 pm that I am free (I generally am not free after 2:30 pm)
  • Get a room
  • Send me an e-mail with two proposed time slots (45-60 minutes are enough, if you’re at Tampa, and if you’re at another campus, I’ll figure out the drive time).
  • I’ll respond within a day or two to say if I can make one of those times.
  • I bring materials, you bring a list of potential reviewer nominations and what you know about them

Do YOU know how to pick external reviewers who will seal the decision effectively?
Do YOU know your rights in the tenure process?

Topics to be addressed:

* Handling unwritten guidelines

* Addressing weaknesses
* Identifying and winnowing the external reviewer pool
* Describing your publication/production cycle)
* Interpreting the USF (and NCF) promotion/tenure guidelines

* Establishing an academic persona

If you are not currently members, you can register and then sign up as a member that day.

Refreshments will be served (tea, coffee, bagels, goodies)
