BOG-strangulation proposal dies at end of session
Friday, May 2nd, 2008The Florida House effectively killed Senate Joint Resolution 2308 by adjourning today at 6 pm without considering it. The proposal championed by outgoing Senate President Ken Pruitt would have placed a constitutional amendment on the ballot this fall to strip the Board of Governors of all authority that the legislature didn’t give it.
At this point, it is reasonable to expect that the Leon County Circuit Court will now consider the Graham v. Pruitt lawsuit over the authority of the Board of Governors to run the system, including setting tuition, and that regardless of the decision at the circuit-court level, the Florida Supreme Court will decide the issue.
